Fragments for affinity

LISTENING OCCASION
My recent research seeks potential affinities between all of those who are oppressed under neoliberalism in an earnest attempt to inspire a renewed sense of collective imagination among a disaffected and fragmented 'Left'. This 'Radical Sociability' could be described as a way of reimagining social relations outside of racial capitalism and identity-based logic for collective liberation. The listening-occasion, Fragments for Affinity, combines this more theoretical/experiential research with my ongoing sound and live-art practice, offering guests an intimate environment for reflecting on these topics, with the support of music chosen specifically for its comforting and narrative qualities.

I use the term 'listening-occasion' to describe this format, the compound being inspired by my friend and collaborator Isabel Lewis' concept of 'Occasions' and Pauline Oliveros' term 'deep-listening'.

This piece was initially comissioned by Zürich Moves! Forever Imbricated in April 2022, thanks to the kind invitation of Marc Streit and Simone Aughterlony and with the support of Tanzhaus Zürich. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to also show the work at Documena Fifteen, curated by Berlin collective Room 4 Resistance in August 2022, and again at Unsound Festival in October 2022.

A one-hour edit was created for Plus X on Cashmere Radio, Berlin.
